Richard Zhang, Executive Director, Head of China Business EMEA, CBRE

Richard Zhang established CBRE’s London China Business team in 2007 and has since led a large majority of the Chinese property acquisitions in the UK, particularly in London, including a number of landmark transactions by Chinese state-owned corporations, Tier 1 Chinese banks, major China based developers, Chinese Sovereign Funds and private clients.

In 2017 alone, Richard and his team achieved a total transaction volume of £1.5 billion, representing almost 75% of total central London transaction volume from Mainland Chinese investors in 2017.

Richard has lead the China Business Team in completing many successful deals over the years. His resourcefulness, commercial experience and natural ability to build personal relationships will continue to set standards in the real estate market, creating a legacy for years to come.

Hongwen Yu, Vice President and one of founding members of Phynova Group

Hongwen is one of the founding members of pharmaceutical company Phynova, playing the key role in the product development and marketing of several innovative Traditional Chinese Medicine drugs, the first of their kind to be granted official licenses by the MHRA for the UK market, and expected to generate more than £10million in sales via outlets such as Boots and Holland & Barrett. She also played a key role in the development of Reducose™, Phynova’s proprietary functional ingredient for promoting healthy blood glucose levels.

Hongwen was behind the immense success of Phynova in building relationships with Chinese companies and institutions including Xiangxue Pharmaceuticals in Guangzhou and Botanic Century R&D company in Beijing, which is now a subsidiary of Phynova.

Hongwen is a true pioneer and innovator in bringing Traditional Chinese Medicine to the West and has been working in the field for more than 25 years.

Carol Hui, Executive Director, Chief of Staff and General Counsel of Heathrow Airport

Carol manages a wide portfolio in one of the busiest and most complex airports in the world. She has been part of the core team that developed Heathrow’s Purpose and Values, projecting her positive leadership and impact on both the company’s performance and its workforce. She also sits on the Diversity & Inclusion Steering Group and is the sponsor for the PROUD network at Heathrow, embracing a culture of diversity and inclusion. Carol believes in nurturing the next generation of business leaders and she is on course to become qualified as a professional coach.

Carol is also a Non-Executive Director of Robert Walters plc and of Amey plc. In addition, she serves as a Board Governor of London South Bank University. She has received recognition for her contribution through winning a number of awards including European General Counsel of the Year as well as awards from the Financial Times, the Lawyer and International General Counsel Awards.

Xiu Li Fu, Headmistress, Nihao Mandarin Language School

Xiu Li is co-founder and Headmistress of Nihao Mandarin Language School, dedicated to providing their local community with the opportunity to learn Mandarin.  In the past 10 years the school has grown from 40 to 300 pupils, catering to ages 2.5 through 70!

10 years’ dedication, commitment, and persistence of Xiu Li, in addition to her demanding day job, has paid off in driving the success of the school and helping its students to achieve remarkable results; for instance, 96% of all students taking the IGCSE & GCSE exams receiving A to A*.

The school serves beyond language and spread Chinese culture and values to people of all ages, all races, and all walks of life and backgrounds who shares a common passion.

Holly Wang, Founder & Head of Design, Miss Patina

Holly launched the UK-based fashion brand Miss Patina in 2009 and single handed in driving the rapid growth of the business internationally. The brand is now stocked at more than 100 stores and boutiques across the UK, Europe, Asia, Canada and the USA, including Topshop concessions and department stores in Canada and Japan.  Many celebrities have now also been seen in Miss Patina, including the famous singer Taylor Swift and Game of Thrones star Emilia Clark. Holly’s work has been featured in many fashion publications such as Vogue, Glamour and Cosmopolitan.

Holly was awarded The Young Design Elite Prize in Fashion by City Zine magazine. Her entrepreneur story has been featured in BBC online, Chinese weekly magazine, Minted Edition magazine and so on. British Council also featured Holly in ‘Great Experience’ documentary to introduce the stories of talented young Chinese entrepreneurs in the UK.

Sanny Yuzhen Jiang, Founder & Chief Executive Officer, MedEther

Sanny, established MedEther as a platform connecting UK’s academic organisations and clinicians with Chinese medical professionals in 20 provinces for education, skill training and teleconsultation co-management services, offering much needed specialized training to this fast-growing sector.  One such signature project, in collaboration with the Royal College of Surgeons, MedEther is exporting clinical skills training programs on aesthetic plastic and orthopaedic surgeries to over 5 million medical professionals in China via its channel partners, allowing MedEther access to a fast-growing market that is valued at a staggering £53 billion.

Together with Peking University, MedEther is helping to establish the first international online academy of optometry in China jointly with the University of London. With a vision for long-term financial return and business prosperity, MedEther is quickly becoming an incubation platform for innovative products or technologies developed by UK senior

Mei Sim Lai, OBE, Founder & Principal, LaiPeters & Co. Chartered Accountants

Mei Sim has championed diversity for more than three decades through her extensive work with various networks, charities and government initiatives addressing race, gender and inclusion. As chairs and core members of numerous groups over the years, including the City Women’s Network, International Women’s Forum, and Women in the Livery for the City of London.  She was appointed OBE in 2004 for Services to Equal Opportunities and won the Asian Women of Achievement Award for her contribution to public services.

As a Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London for the past 11 years and the Queen’s representative for Brent, Mei Sim is one of the most well-known and respected members of the Chinese business community in the UK.  Her 27 years of outstanding work for the Chinese community in the UK, since founding IoD City in 1991, have helped to lay the foundations for the amazing success of Chinese businesses across the UK today!

Sitting on 12 charities, not-for-profit organizations and advisory boards/committees including community groups today, Mei Sim continues to inspire and encourage more people to be involved in diversity issues, cultural promotions and charity works.
